Week 7: Class Exercise 05

There is only one class exercise that we need to do for today which is the random association exercise.

We have to create SCARY images or object that will fear among people through out the ages. It means that not only it will be understandable by this generations but also the future.

The random words given is: Kitten

Firstly, we need to find the characteristics of the kitten.

Association:

1) Eye = the cat's uniqueness is in the eyes.
2) Scratch = they have long nails.
3) Street = they can be seen anywhere on the street.
4)Meowww = how they sound.

In practice: What might this mean?

I have problem to scan the picture that I drew in class. So I have to draw it again using paint. It is almost the same like this.

From my point of view, I think that people are mostly scared by the cat's eyes because it looks somehow scary rather than it's claw.

Week 7: Random Word Or Image Association

What we have learn in class today was about random words and image association. It is actually about idea generation method which allows student to systematically generate new ideas through a fixed formula.

Roughly, this is basically the formula mentioned above. How the problems were sent to the right brain to be analysis and how it will be reviewed creatively by the left brain and so on.

It is true that more good ideas will be generated if we somehow look for..

This is the correct way to search or find the solution in order to solve any problems. We cannot view and judge from one side only. This is what we called by random words.

The idea of random words is to provoke and to make us move from the normal mode that we are used to it and the same stuffs that we usually do.

Week 6: Class Exercise 04

For this class exercise, we have to write a short statement or a poem that described the concept of LOVE, LIFE, and WOMAN or MAN.

So, this is basically what I wrote to describe love with chili.

Love is like a chili.
Red chili are hot,

Small green chili even hotter.

The hotter the chili,

The more people will like it.

Just like love.

The more pain it gives us,

The stronger we get.

The second one is the same with the previous exercise. Except for this one, we have to relate
So, here it goes.

Life is expensive,
Just like sports car.

So people,

Enjoy every minute of it
,
Live life to the fullest.
Because,
Life does not require a license.

Last but not least, the third exercise is to relate

This is what I have written.

Some men are nice,
While some are not.
They smells, they stinks,
Just like garbage.
That should be disposed,
Forever and ever.

Hehe, I'm not really good at writing poem or sentences actually. Have to practice more.
:)

Week 6: How Mergers Go Wrong

This week is about how mergers go wrong. It just can't happen when two things which don't suits each other were to be combined.

We were asked by Mr Bedu to pick out randomly any two animals and combined it together so that we could understands better and get the message.

So, I chose a cat and a snake.

A cat's head with a snake's body. Scary and weird isn't?
Can you imagine?
They just don't looks good together.
And for sure, this kind of animal won't survive for a long time because they are totally different physically and the way they live.

Mr Bedu gave us some example; A fish's head and a bird's body.
What is he trying to say is that two animals from two different environment cannot be mergers together because it results crap.
Fish cannot survive when exposed to air while birds cannot live underwater.

Get the point?

Week 5: Class Exercise 03

Week 5: Juxtaposition

Class was fun because Mr Bedu gave us short lecture and fun class exercise. There was supposed to be another exercise but half of the class already went back as they thought the class already finished.

Moving on, what we have learn in class today is basically about 'Juxtaposition'.
What is juxtaposition?

From my understanding, the definition of juxtaposition is placing two variables side by side, and the contrast and also the similarity are shown through some comparison. And the two words must make sense.

For example, "stupid like a dog". Does it sound normal and make sense to you? We know that dog is an animal but are they stupid? If so, there will be no such phrase such as dog is man's best friend.

But, it do make sense if the sentence is for example, " stupid like a cow".

It sounds normal and people will easily get the point.

Week 4: Class Exercise 02

Class exercise 02 is a LOGICAL mind-map that we have to do in class about
"EVIL ME".
It is about our weaknesses, dark side, and any other things. Not necessary to write the negatives side about ourselves.

And this is "EVIL ME"
..

Week 4: Mind-mapping

Today, Mr Halim have taught us about mind-mapping.

Instead of writing about mind-maps all over again, I'm going to upload my notes about my understanding about mind-mapping that I wrote in class.

What is mind-mapping?

Mind-maps can be divided into two;

The advantages of Logical mind-maps;

A good logical mind-map;

While associate mind-map generate random words. It shows link between word that have no connection at all.

For example, what Mr Bedu was holding (mortar & pestle) does not have any connection with Brad Pitt.

The Basic Rules Of A Mind-Map

  • Subject must be placed in the center and dominant.
  • We need to decide the main categories on subject before executing.
  • Put different colors for different categories.
  • Include some drawing and images.

Week 3: My Very Own Bill Gates

This is also one the class exercise for week 3. We have to choose one of the 3 famous person which was shown to us. One of them is Bill Gates and the other two was the creator of Google. Study their characteristics and describe them with drawing. This exercise is similar to the first class exercise except it is not as interesting as the first one because it was much fun describing them when they are sitting next to you.

Bill Gates is one of my favorite so I've chosen him.

About Bill Gates:
  • Author
  • American Business Magnate
  • Philanthropist
  • One of the world richest person
  • Founder of Microsoft
  • Admired by many
  • Verbally combative
  • Like to be fully convinced
  • Remark sarcastically
  • Avid reader
  • Enjoys playing Bridge, Tennis, Golf

My drawing to describe his characteristics

Why computer?
Because he is the founder of Microsoft, so when i see him, i see computer.

Why money?
Because he is one the richest guy in the world.

Week 3: Class Exercise 01

On 17th February 09, we were asked by Mr Bedu to pair up and do some class exercise. The task was quite enjoyable because we have to write maximum 10 questions and answers about our pair. Later on, we have to draw their characteristics based on the questions. Before we move on the questions and answers that I wrote about my partner, and the picture, I want you guys to meet her.

She's humble and cute. Meet Diana, or known as Dy.

I don't have much questions to ask since we're close and I know her well. Hehee. So the questions were mostly what i know about her (main tipu sikit) :p
And this were the questions.

At first, I'm not quite sure how to combine all of this into one. After a few minutes, I have decided to draw her face, with her lover's hair, and combination of the questions as the eye, ear, nose, and so on. 99% originality and 1% creativity :)
And this is how the picture looked like.

Funny isn't? Well who cares? Dy said it was cute and she liked it. That's all that matters.
And thanks Dy, for the nice drawing that u drew to describe me. I loved it.

Week 3: Novelty, Creativity, Innovation, Invention

On week 3, Mr Bedu gave us a lecture on Novelty, Creativity, Innovation, and Invention. This 4 words contains a different meaning but have the same value.

From my understanding, Novelty means the quality of being new and it was good for the person who produce it. It can be divided into two; Subjective Novelty and Objective Novelty.
Subjective novelty can be defined as the perceptions of something as being new by individual or group. Objective novelty is new for all humanity in its development through ages.

NEVER BE CONFIDENT THAT SOMETHING IS OBJECTIVELY NEW!

Now, let's move on to Creativity. Creativity means generation of new ideas or a new way of doing things. So, novelty in creativity is actually based on what has been created before. But to be creative, originality is important. We can't just simply take other people's work and claimed it as ours. Originality is decisive feature of creative work.

What is Innovation? Innovation is the process of making improvements by introducing something new. All of the ideas or invention were translated into good or service. But, the idea must be replicable at economical cost and satisfy the specific need. It can be divided into two which is; continuous evolutionary innovation and discontinuous innovation.

Last but not least, what do you know about invention? Inventor is someone who take existing knowledge and create the new one out of it. Invention is new things that have been created.

"Necessity is the mother of invention, it is true, but its father is creativity, and knowledge is the midwife"

Week 2: Who Is She?

This post is about a girl who is absolutely unique with her beauty and brain, and she has became my idol recently.
Who is she?

Her name is Yang Mulia Tengku Faizwa Tengku Razif, she is 29 and she has a talent that really impressed me and other people aswell. She is one of the pioneer Malay trainers specializing in brain, learning, memory, and thinking.

She said that the reason why she is so interested in this specific area is because of the subject 'Creative Studies'. The uniqueness of the subject had attracted her. Therefore, she starts to find information and do some research about it. She managed to discover that there a lot of ways to improve our memorizing skills without reading the same book for several times.

She even get a full support from our former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir. He admit that it works and it was proven when her students succeed well in their exams. He later joined Tengku Faizwa classes with his wife after he retire.

Everywhere she go, she gets people's attention for her capability. She can memorize more than 30 numbers with the right sequences after seen the numbers not more than 2 minutes. She have been practically using the method in her daily lifes and find that it is not that difficult. She can remember telephone numbers and many other information easily.

In a conclusion, Creative Studies in not just one of the electif subject that we take and we forget. We should know the advantages of learning it so that we can apply it in other ways that gives us benefits.

Week 2: She Who Fails To Plan, Plan To Fails

Planning is very very very very very important in our daily routine. If you don't plan on what are we going to do, simple answer, you are going to end up like this woman.

The moral of the story is, life is never easy and it will never be easier than today if we don't plan ahead.

Week 1: Defining Creativity

What is Creativity?

A mental and social process involving the generation of new ideas or concepts, or new associations of the creative mind between existing ideas or concepts, creativity is fueled by the process of either conscious or unconscious insight. An alternative conception of creativeness is that it is simply the act of making something new.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creativity

In my very own opinion, creativity is something which is very unique and how different can a person be from others. We are talking about all the people in the world here. All of us are the same. If we share the same ideas, it will means nothing because it was just an average ideas. Michael Jackson is creative because he tend to be different from what he really are, and he succeed. Isaac Newton is creative because he managed to discovered what other people can't see. Lim Goh Tong is also creative because he has inspired many people that anything is impossible.

To be creative like Leonardo Da Vinci is not possible. We just have to put 99% efforts on it and the attitudes. Learn to think creatively and have the urge to discover all the possibles answers. Dare to try something new and do not give up easily no matter what. Some things are not easy as it seems.

But there is always misconception about creativity. How people tend to be too low profile and assume that he/she is not creative while other people are. We are all creative but in a different scope. We need to figure out what else is missing so that we know how to achieve our goals in terms to be creative.

http://www.youtube.com

This video is a land line phone commercial. I kinda like it because obviously the designer is very creative and clever. Not many people can think this way and produced such a good work like this. From this video, we know that creativity is not only for arts but is applicable to all directions. It can be in anything.

That is why majority of us had the wrong idea about what is creativity is all about. I think a doctor, a lawyer, or even a housewives needs to be creative in their scope. Don't you think so? A creative bottles of medicine so that children will starts enjoy their medicine, or a cooking with a creative decoration maybe?

The Introduction

What do I expect to learn from this class?

What do I think about Creative Studies? When I first heard of the subject called ‘Creative Studies’, I’m a bit excited because I’m pretty sure that we will not be learning Macromedia Flash or any other software in this subject. Fuhhh! But the bad news is, the class was too crowded with more than 200 students. Luckily, the lecturer had divided us into 2; Tuesday & Wednesday classes. Problem solved!

Some people might judge why we have to pay almost RM1000 just to learn ‘Creative Studies’. They think that this subject is as easy as it sounds and we can learn it on our own by doing some research on the internet or reading books. But what they don't really know is that, it is not about the context and content itself that matters. We need an understanding, our own interpretation about the input and output of the content, and such.

I'm lucky, I must say, because it is worth paying it. The message that have been delivered so far are understandable and clear. Thanks to Mr Bedu! He sure knows how to communicate well with the students. Loud, confidence, eye contact are the most important while teaching to attract students to listen.

Back to the question above, what do I expect to learn from this subject:

1) Think smart but not hard.

2) Creative thinking.

3) Be able to produce a lot of ideas.

Almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better.
